Meet Recap - Spikes and Spurs Classic 2014
Conditions were ideal, as many teams got off to a fast start at the 3rd Annual Spikes and Spurs Classic Invitational. The race, hosted by Flagler Palm Coast, saw almost 900 kids compete at the Flager County Fair Grounds.
The race for the team title went as predicted with Peachtree Ridge of Lawrenceville Georgia taking the win with 57 pts. Peachtree placed 5 runners in the top 18 places. Coming in 2nd was Bartram Trail with 87 pts, edging out Vanguard High School who scored 100 pts. Lake Mary and Dr. Phillips were 4th and 5th with scores of 113 and 130, respectively.
The girls race also got a very fast start as Sinclaire Johnson, Audrey Carpenter, Elizabeth Mulford, and Kianna Bonnet went through the first mile in the upper 5:30’s. By mile 2, Lake Mary's Fatema Jaffer had worked her way into the top 3, where her and Johnson started to separate themselves from Carpenter. In the latter part of the 3rd mile, Lake Brantley's Sinclaire Johnson made a move and never looked back as she ended up taking the win in a time of 18:28. Placing 2nd overall was Fatema Jaffer in a time of 18:36. Audrey Carpenter rounded out the top 3 with a time of 18:57.
The girls team title was somewhat of a surprise as Vanguard took the overall win with a score of 77pts. Placing second in the team race was Peachtree Ridge with 116 pts, edging out Lake Mary who scored 138 pts. Rounding out your top 5 were Dr. Phillips with 160 pts and Mandarin with 161 pts. |
